Despite a 4% unemployment rate, food insecurity affects 1 in 6 people in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. High living costs, particularly rent, force families to prioritize bills over nutritious food. Even those working multiple jobs find their incomes insufficient in the expensive region. Over time, they expanded their culinary skills and attended nutrition workshops to provide nutritious meals for their growing family.
